Our story

Tiparra is developed by The Tiparra Group, a proud Canberra-based business that employs 17 Canberrans who have combined decades of operation in the ACT across multiple business streams.

Tiparra’s technology is built using products that we developed with the direct support of the ACT Government and the CBRIN program through a 2016 ICON Grant and a 2020 Boosting Innovation Grant.

2019 (and earlier)

The beginning

The Tiparra team first gets together to build an innovative, mobile-first solution to the problem of property and asset management in commercial tenancies and public spaces.

Our QR-code based FixIt platform is launched, making it easy for members of the public to scan an asset code and raise a maintenance issue for repair.

QR codes &  Boosting Innovation

We all remember what made 2020 infamous. The surprise resurgence of QR codes was one silver lining, with the power of those little interaction squares really kicking our FixIt platform into the next gear.

Thanks to a Boosting Innovation Grant from CBRIN and the ACT Government we develop new components for two-way interaction between real world events and digital versions of those events.

Tiparra is born

The outcome of an internal app "pitch-fest", Tiparra is born as a new platform for community groups and micro-creators to generate and share content with their audiences.

ACT Brumbies Game Day Experience

Tiparra picks up our first major event partner, the ACT Brumbies rugby union club. The most successful professional rugby club in Australia adopts Tiparra to run all Game Day engagement with fans, introducing our platform to a massive new audience.

Onwards and upwards!

Tiparra just keeps growing in 2023, with new application features and new event partners added on almost a weekly basis.

We introduced our new processes for increasing sponsor and partnership ROI through the Tiparra platform, opening new revenue opportunities for sports clubs and event hosts.

James grew the company to develop social media and fan engagement applications for Extreme Sports Athletes sponsored by Oakley/Arnette, as well as social media applications for NBC Universal, Billabong and Verisign. James has Bachelor’s degrees in Information Technology and Economics from the Australian National University.  He is an established speaker at international digital media and software development conferences and a published freelance writer for Evo Australia magazine.

As Customer Success Chief at Tiparra, Mike has made it his mission to build meaningful relationships between sports properties and fans. Starting out in technical fields such as PCB design, he discovered a need for clear communication about technology for a wider audience. This sparked a 20-year career in Learning & Development as a designer, communicator, and analyst. Prior to his role at Tiparra, Mike managed his own learning business, The Learning Deli, with a client list that included many Australian Government departments and industry leaders such as Smart Communications. Originally from the Netherlands, he ventured out to Australia in 1999 and made it his home. Honouring his Dutch heritage, he does still prefer chocolate sprinkles over Vegemite.
